Happy Friday, everyone! It’s crazy to believe that yesterday was Thanksgiving and today is Black Friday. With that being said, I hope everyone’s holiday season is off to a wonderful start. We enjoyed a quiet Thanksgiving yesterday surrounded by close family and lots of food, and today was spent shopping like crazy with one of my best friends. I feel as though I am having a quick start to the Christmas season, and I am genuinely welcoming this transition.
Around this time last year I wrote about my slow start to the Christmas season and I really cannot believe how differently this one feels. As I mentioned in my post last year, my family was experiencing many heartbreaking losses and it really didn’t feel like Christmas for me. In a way, I felt like I was forcing myself to get into a holly-jolly mood and that was really difficult at times. Anyone who has experienced grief knows how draining the process can be and I really did not feel the magic of Christmas in my heart at all. Of course we put up the tree and listened to Christmas music, etc., but I think it was mostly because of tradition.
But like I just said, this year feels different. For this I am extremely grateful. Today I spent my Black Friday sipping seasonal lattes from Starbucks with one of my best friends while we shopped for Christmas gifts and compared wrapping paper. Holiday music was blasting throughout the stores, we talked about what times we were going to mass on Christmas Eve, and we even had the chance to catch up over a nice lunch together. After our shopping spree, I headed home and started decorating, ordered my Advent devotional, poured myself a glass of wine, and started a Christmas movie. This beginning of the Christmas season feels so much nicer than last year’s start.
Anyway, I just wanted to pop on the blog and wish everyone a very happy start to the Christmas season! I will be praying for you all throughout this season of Advent, and I hope Santa brings you all super awesome gifts!
